Shigeo Gocho was a photographer who died at the age of 36. His photobook Self and Others, originally self-published in 1977, was reissued in hardcover by publisher Miraisha, Tokyo, in 1994. Composed primarily of portraits captured through Gocho's quiet and poetic gaze, it is regarded as one of the masterworks in the history of Japanese photography.
