Why Hawaii, and why did I want to photograph it ? Even now, after completing the work, I still do not know. Perhaps, somewhere beneath the surface of my consciousness, there had always been a single thread of memory that quietly led me toward the islands of Hawaii. It feels as though I was following a longing for an unseen Hawaii that had lived within me since childhood. Even if that memory existed beyond the reach of awareness, there is no denying that, for me, this was a place already prepared.
