The book is collectively titled Bi to Moyō (Beauty and Pattern). It contains three essays: "Kōgeiteki naru mono" (That Which Is of Craft), "Moyō to wa nani ka" (What Is Pattern?), and "Ningyō to ningen" (Dolls and Human Beings). While each takes up a different subject, together they seek to show that beauty, pattern, and craft are bound to one another by ties that run deep.
